Microdermabraision is a procedure that uses an instrument to gently exfoliate the outer layer of skin to help reveal newer, younger skin. This is a great treatment to help with clogged pores, scarring, sun damage or stretch marks. The skin is encouraged to repair itself after the procedure boosting collagen and new cell growth.
How many treatments do you need?
Typically, you will see results immediately. However, more subtle results will become apparent a few weeks after treatment as collagen increases. Multiple treatments are needed for conditios such as sun damage, scars, and dark spots.
Who should not have microdermabrasion?
Patients with deep scarring, tendency to keloid, active cold sores, active acne, skin cancer, uncontrolled diabetes or auto-immune diseases, sunburns or active eczema should avoid microdermabrasion.
How long does microdermabrasion last?
Typically patients need maintenance treatments monthly to continue to see lasting results.
What are side-effects of microdermabraision?
Skin is often sensitive and needs to be protected from the sun after a treatment. In addition, most patients experience dry, flaky skin for several days. Bruising is a rare side-effect that is from the suction device. Typically there is no downtime. Most patients can return to work and normal activites after a treatment.
