What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that involves pricking the skin with tiny needles to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. This helps to improve the texture and firmness of the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and promote a more youthful complexion.

How Does it Work?

During a microneedling treatment, a device with small needles is used to create tiny punctures in the skin. These punctures trigger the body’s natural healing response, which includes the production of collagen and elastin. This increased production of collagen and elastin helps to plump and firm the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can be done alone or in conjunction with other “boosters” such as PRF, serums, or radio frequency. In general, adding radio frequency will increase firmness and help with skin laxity

Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling offers a range of benefits for the skin, including:

1. Improved Skin Texture: Microneedling can help to improve the texture of the skin, making it smoother and softer to the touch.

2. Reduced Appearance of Fine Lines and Wrinkles: By promoting the production of collagen and elastin, microneedling can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

3. Minimized Pores: Microneedling can help to minimize the appearance of pores, making the skin look smoother and more even.

4. Increased Absorption of Skincare Products: Microneedling can help to increase the absorption of skincare products, allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin and work more effectively. You can add a booster such as hyaluronic acid for moisture or vitamin C for brightening.

5. Reduced Appearance of Scars: Microneedling can help to reduce the appearance of scars, including acne scars and other types of scarring.

6. Improved Overall Skin Health: By promoting the production of collagen and elastin, microneedling can help to improve the overall health of the skin, making it look more youthful and radiant.

What to Expect During and After a Microneedling Treatment

Prior to your appointment, it is important to avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as Motrin, ibuprofen, or Advil. These can interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your ski rejuvenation. During a microneedling treatment, your skincare professional will first numb the skin with cream. This will be applied and allowed to work for at least 30 minutes before the procedure. Then we use a device with small needles to create tiny punctures in your skin. You may feel some discomfort during the treatment, but it is generally well-tolerated. After the treatment, your skin may be red and slightly swollen like a moderate sunburn, but this should subside within a few hours. You may also experience some peeling and flaking in the days following the treatment, but this is normal and to be expected. Plan your social calendar accordingly. As we will want you to avoid makeup for 24 hours, strenuous exercise for 48 hours, and jacuzzi/sauna/steam baths for 48 hours. We will have you use home vitamin C serum daily to promote healing and decrease pigmentation. Avoid Retin-A until your skin is no longer irritated.

Microneedling is a safe and effective way to rejuvenate the skin and improve its overall appearance. By promoting the production of collagen and elastin, microneedling can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, minimize pores, and improve the texture and health of the skin.
